About the pre-purchase website check
What should I check before buying a website?
Whether its traffic is holding, what it is built on and whether that changed, what changed on the website lately, whether the company behind it is hiring or shrinking, and what its news says. The check puts all of these in one report, with every red flag dated.
What counts as a red flag?
Something that happened that a buyer would want to know first: a fall in traffic tier, a change or loss of platform, payment options or a checkout page taken down, open roles falling away, a smaller headcount, news of layoffs or a breach, or a website that stopped loading. Each comes with the day, or the month, it was seen.
Does the check value the website or business?
No. It reports what happened to the website and the company behind it, each fact dated. It puts no price on either.
How far back does the report go?
Changes to the website cover the last 90 days, news the last 12 months, and the traffic tier up to 12 months, as far as we hold them. Platform changes go back to our first reading of the website.
What does the traffic tier mean?
Where the website stands among the most visited websites on the web that month: in the top 10,000, the top 100,000, the top million and so on. A move to a lower tier means fewer visits.
Can I check many websites at once?
The free check takes one website at a time. The Fokals MCP and API return the same facts for whole lists of companies.
